European Year of Volunteering 2011

We are looking forward to joining with millions of individual volunteers and organisations all across Europe in celebrating European Year of Volunteering 2011.

Working together, the European Year of Volunteering hopes to:

1. Work towards an enabling and facilitating environment for volunteering in the EU;
2. Empower volunteer organisations and improve the quality of volunteering
3. Reward and recognise volunteering activities
4. Raise awareness of the value and importance of volunteering.

Some Interesting Statistics for 2010 to date!

1328 - the number of new volunteers who registered with the centre to date.
384 - the number of volunteer placements carried out to date
86 - the number of new organisations registered with the centre.
389 - the number of new volunteering vacancies identified.
74% - the percentage of volunteers aged under 35 who registered to volunteer during the year
484 - the number of volunteers from businesses who engaged in one day employer supported volunteering projects during the year
58% - the percentage of registered volunteers who had never volunteered before
33,000 - the number of hours worked by volunteers who were placed by the volunteer centre to date
22 - the equivalent number of full time jobs that would be needed to replace these volunteer hours.
500,000 - the in-kind value in Euro of volunteer hours through the Volunteer Centre in 2009 when multiplied by the average industrial wage
644 - the number of organisations now registered with the Volunteer Centre
900 - the amount of Garda Vetting forms processed (for a total of 42 local groups).
