The aim of The National Day of Volunteering - is to encourage everyone in Ireland to give volunteering a go, to show that – even if it’s only for a minute, an hour, a day – volunteering can make a big difference and be a lot of fun.
This year, the National Day of Volunteering it will take place on Friday, 1st of October, 2010.
As part of Active Citizenship Week 2010, South Dublin County Volunteer Centre are holding a Volunteer Recruitment Fair on Tuesday 28th September.
The fair will be held in 4 libraries throughout the county - Tallaght Library, Clondalkin Library, Ballyroan Library and Lucan Library. The Fair will run from 11am to 3pm.
We will be advertising the event to over 5000 volunteers already registered with our centre.
We will also be advertising it with the local media as well as third level institutes and schools in the county.
If you are looking for volunteers for your organisation - this could be an ideal opportunity for you to get the right person for the right role!
If you are interested in participating, you will need to apply soon as places are limited in each library and will be allocated on a first come, first served basis.
Each participating organisation will be provided with a table where they can advertise their work and their volunteer roles.
Organisations will be assigned the library closest to their geographical remit.

The South Dublin County Active Citizenship Week takes place from 27th September to 1st October.
The aim of Active Citizenship Week is to promote and celebrate the wonderful contribution made by our citizens to the daily life of South Dublin County and to encourage the positive participation of those who are not already involved.
We are asking community and voluntary organisations plus businesses in the county to consider organising an event or a celebration to promote citizenship during the week. Below you will find some helpful guidelines for organisations planning an Active Citizenship Event:
1. Brainstorm Take some time with colleagues within your organisation/group to discuss ideas for Active Citizenship Week considering the issues that are most relevant to your area.
2. Plan Your Event Decide what type of event you would like to host (see over for some ideas). Common active citizenship themes include:
Environmental Responsibility
Social responsibility
Civic responsibility
Volunteering
Political Engagement
Corporate Social Responsibility.
Decide where and when you will host your event and how you will promote it in your local area.
3. Register Your Event
Register your event with us by filling the form below. All event registrations received before the Friday 18th September 2010 will be listed in the Active Citizenship event guide which will be published on various websites across the county and in media releases. It is the responsibility of event organisers to ensure the information provided for their event is accurate and correct.

We are looking for Advancer and Weekender volunteers. Volunteers play an important part in the festival, and gain entry to the festival in exchange for 24 hours (4 x 6 hr or 3 x 8hr shifts) of voluntary work.
Volunteers will be supplied with the following:
A Festival Volunteer vest and info pack.
Access to advance camping area
Time out to enjoy the show – you only work 24 hours over the course of the festival and are welcome to enjoy the festival when off-shift.
Volunteers positions will be allocated on a first come first serve basis.
The Advance Volunteer role can include the following:
Site assistance – running/ signage erecting/ misc tasks
Entrance Gates – festival goer information point at gate/ security assistance
Assistance with vehicular access at Production entrance
Assistance access to Crew areas – campsite/ carpark
Wristband checking/ Site Office assistance/ Artist Area assistance etc
Assistance in any emergency situations onsite
Monitoring and reporting any oddities on the site that could result in persons harming themselves or others, and report any Health and Safety hazards or issues
Be 18 years or over before the start of August 2010. Photo ID will be required on arrival.
Be available to arrive at the Festival site by 12.00 noon on Sunday 29th August 2010.
Make your own way to and from Stradbally. Train & bus information will be provided and Crew carparking will be made available.
Be available for onsite briefing on Sunday 29th at 16.00
Be available to work 4 x 6hr shifts between Monday 30th August and Friday 3rd September.
Be prepared to wear your designated hi-vis vest and be easily recognisable as a Festival Volunteer – the grounds are classed as a building site in the Advance week and all Health & Safety instructions should be adhered to, for your own protection & safety.
Supply a recent photo for our photoboard on arrival.
Sign in and out of ALL shifts and report to manager as per arrangements per shift.
Bring adequate camping gear.
Bring clothing appropriate for the weather – to use protective clothing in adverse weather conditions and sun cream as protection from the sun.
When you have completed your scheduled shifts you will be allocated your Festival pass and will be free to enjoy the Electric Picnic.

WEEKENDER VOLUNTEERS
Volunteers positions will be allocated on a first-come first-serve basis.
The Weekender Volunteer role can include the following:
To be the ‘eyes and ears’ of the Festival, reporting any oddities on the site that could result in persons harming themselves or others, and report any Health and Safety hazards or issues
Mobile/ roaming Information Stewards, assisting festival goers with queries/ helping carry equipment/ helping to pitch tents etc
Carparks – Directing traffic – assisting in carpark areas – pedestrians to campsites
Assisting in Family Campsite – Garda clearance check may be required
Artist Liaison assistant
VIP (Boutique) Camping/ Village Green assistants – helping public
Entrance Gates – festival goer information point at gate/ security assistance
Campsites – generally helping public with queries/ site knowledge of facilities
Helping to control vehicular access at Production entrance
Controlling access to Crew areas – campsite/ carpark
To be helpful in emergency situations onsite – directing public to safe area etc
Pay a refundable BOND to the value of Festival ticket by 12 July 2010. This will be refunded in late sept/ early Oct if shifts are completed
Be 18 years or over before the start of August 2010. Photo ID will be required on arrival.
Be available to arrive at the Festival site by 12.00 noon on Thursday 2nd September 2010.
Make their own way to and from Stradbally. Train & bus information will be provided and Crew carparking will be made available.
Be available for onsite briefing on Thursday 2nd at 16.00
Be available to work 4 x 6hr or 3 x 8hr shifts between Friday 3rd September and Monday 6th September. We do need volunteers on Monday 6th September, please note on your application form if you can.
