SDCVC announces second training programme for voluntary organisations in Tallaght PDF Print E-mail
Tallaght Echo - 24th March TALLAGHT Volunteer Bureau is looking for organisations to become involved in its second training programme aimed at improving the roles provided available to volunteers.

This week the first instalment of the new training regime came to a close with representatives from Tallaght and beyond returning to their organisations to develop a coordinated volunteering policy and look at how they can exact the most benefit from the voluntary sector.

Stretched out over seven weeks the course involves five half day sessions each tackling specific issues that tend to arise when community groups engage with volunteers.

It is the only course of its kind that is run free of charge in Ireland and sets about educating groups on how best to exploit a resource within the Tallaght Volunteer Bureau that has hundreds of volunteers prepared to take up roles.

The course first teaches groups on how to identify meaningful work for volunteers and design roles that can sustain a voluntary person.

It then looks at recruiting volunteers, supporting and supervising the people they take on and finally how to develop policies around volunteering.

The TVB?s Training Services Manager Clodagh Gorman says that there a large number of groups in the area that can benefit greatly by developing a strategic volunteering policy.

She said: ?The first instalment was a great success, a real measure of it was that everybody who started the course came along to every session which does not happen very often.

?We are looking at organisations who either involve or would think of involving volunteers in their work to participate.?

The courses are set to begin in office space in Hainault House, provided by Comhairle on April 5 and continue every fortnight until the end of May.

Groups are invited to register their interest in sending representatives to the course by contacting Ms Gorman at the TVB on 4628558.
